Wolfberger and Lucien Albrecht: Four Whites for Asia-Pacific Lists

Editorial

From a first glass to a Grand Cru bottle, find a place for Wolfberger and Lucien Albrecht on an Asia-Pacific wine list.

A guest settles in, looks towards the kitchen and asks for a white wine. The answer can begin with the evening they have in mind: a quick plate before heading out, dinner for two, or a bottle to linger over. Wolfberger and Lucien Albrecht give you four ways to make that first pour feel personal.

Together, the three Collection Signature whites and Riesling Grand Cru Ollwiller offer a small Alsace selection with room for different appetites. The pleasure for a buyer is in imagining where each bottle belongs. A wine earns its place when the team can picture the person who will enjoy it, and the moment they will ask for another glass.

A Signature for Every Kind of Evening

For the guest beginning with shellfish, Riesling Collection Signature makes an inviting first glass. Its dry style suits a delicate plate, making it a natural choice by the glass. Put it within easy reach of someone who knows they want white wine but would welcome a suggestion beyond their usual order.

Pinot Gris brings another possibility to a table of two. A half-bottle can accompany duck breast or roast poultry, leaving the couple free to choose something else later. There is generosity in offering a smaller bottle: it makes room for a change of course, a different preference, or simply a shorter evening.

When the menu turns to aromatic cooking, bring Gewurztraminer into the conversation. Offer it to the guest who enjoys fragrance in the glass, or alongside spring rolls while the rest of dinner is being chosen. It can also find a place at the end of the evening with strong cheese, making that final order feel like a fresh discovery.

A Hillside to Bring to the Table

Ollwiller faces south-east, with forest nearby and shelter from the surrounding heights. The elevation and woodland help the grapes ripen relatively late. Lucien Albrecht's harvest is picked entirely by hand: there are people moving through those rows before the Riesling reaches the glass.

That landscape gives the bottle a story worth sharing with someone who wants to know where a wine comes from. At a long lunch, or beside grilled fish when the evening has slowed down, Grand Cru Ollwiller offers a reason to stay with one bottle. Let the vineyard name open the conversation and bring that hillside to life.

A Place on Your Own Menu

An importer can introduce these wines through the restaurants they hope to see pouring them. Picture the seafood counter, the intimate dining room or the kitchen built around aromatic dishes, then choose the bottle that belongs there. For a sommelier, the same thought starts closer to home: which guest would be glad you brought this wine to the table?

Wolfberger's sustainable-farming, food-safety and energy-management certifications support the care behind that welcome, with the energy certification covering its Colmar production site. Keep the conversation over the glass on the wine itself. The kitchen can supply the first dish; the people serving it can help find the words that make someone want to taste.

The First Table Is Waiting

Before the doors open, picture a few glasses gathered beside a dish from the kitchen. Someone discovers a pairing that delights them; someone else already knows which regular guest would enjoy it. This is where a new bottle can become part of the restaurant's own welcome.

Carry that enthusiasm into the first recommendation. A few words about the hillside, a dish, or why you chose this glass can spark the discovery of a new favourite.

From the winery

Wolfberger

Born in Eguisheim in 1902, Wolfberger unites Alsace growers across 13,000 vineyard parcels, with a fresh Collection Signature chosen every year.

The Winery

A House Built by Its Growers

In 1902, growers joined forces in a difficult time and founded the Eguisheim cooperative. They shared a cellar and exchanged vineyard knowledge while continuing to work their own plots. That practical spirit still gives Wolfberger its character: many growers, working together under one name.

A new generation introduced the Wolfberger name in the 1970s. Created for the first Crémants d'Alsace, it grew into a house embracing still wines, sparkling wines and spirits. Today, 290 member growers carry that work forward. Behind the breadth of the range are the people tending the vines, season after season.

The Vineyards & Terroir

Many Small Plots, One Shared Landscape

Wolfberger's vineyard stretches across 1,200 hectares divided into 13,000 parcels. Each is worked by the grower who knows it. These small pieces of land sit within Alsace's sheltered landscape, on the eastern slopes of the Vosges, where the mountains help make this one of France's driest wine regions.

The work follows the seasons. Pruning prepares the vines for the coming harvest and their longer life; spring brings hands-on care of new growth. This is where the collective begins, well before the grapes reach the cellar: with growers making careful decisions in their own rows.

The Winemaking

Care from Vineyard to Cellar

In Eguisheim, the growers' harvest becomes a broad family of Alsace wines. Alongside the still whites are Grands Crus, sparkling Crémants d'Alsace and eaux-de-vie. Winemaking and distilling give the house different ways to express the fruit its growers bring in.

Wolfberger is certified for sustainable farming, food safety and energy management, with the energy certification covering its Colmar production site. Grower reviews and training help put that work into practice, from caring for vines to responding to changing weather. These commitments connect the care taken in individual vineyards with the work of the wider house.

The Collection

A Fresh Selection from Each Harvest

Collection Signature begins with a tasting. Every year, a committee of recognised sommeliers chooses the most expressive wine of each variety from the vintage. The selection changes with the harvest, giving you a fresh reason to return to a familiar grape.

Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer offer three ways into the range. Each wine is made entirely from the variety named on its label, so you can explore the grapes side by side. Start with a favourite, or taste across the collection to discover how differently these Alsace whites can fill a glass.
