Region

Piemonte, Italy

This region in the northwestern part of Italy is surrounded by the Alps, and offers a variety of different vineyard elevations and a cool, continental climate.

Piemontese wine culture is reminiscent of Burgundy, in France, due to the intertwining of food and wine in the region, and the long ageing potential of its red wines. The cool weather and frequent cloud cover in the region help maintain high acid levels in the grapes, meaning the wines keep many years.

Renowned for Barolo and Barbaresco wines, the region is also home to the lightly sparkling Moscato d’Asti, as well as the Barbera and Dolcetto varieties, which continue to grow in popularity.
