Italian Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, made in the Abruzzo region from the Montepulciano grape, is often confused with Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, but is in fact a completely distinct type of wine. These wines are perennially popular with consumers, and generally make very pleasant and affordable everyday wines, with a juicy, fruit-filled profile.

Wines from the region are generally unoaked, with a rich cherry and plum flavor profile, structured but not overbearing tannins, and a medium level of acidity. They are extremely food-friendly wines, that go well with the traditional Italian pizza and pasta dishes. A Riserva spends some time in oak and offers generally a significant step up in terms of quality and complexity, without a significant jump in price point.
